VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Positive, Productive, Proud!
Welcome to Tuscarawas Valley Primary School. I am looking forward to a great year working with you and your children. This letter will explain a few procedures and notify you of activities and upcoming dates of interest to you.
Please complete and return school forms for each child. Do not combine them onto one form. The Emergency Medical Authorization Form is extremely important and should be returned immediately with required information.
Workbook fees are as follows: Kindergarten and First Grade - $40.00 We accept payments throughout the school year. If you would like to arrange to make partial payments, please contact the school office. If you would like to arrange to make partial payments, please contact the school office.
Student breakfast costs $1.25, reduced .30 cents. Student lunches are $2.25, reduced lunches are .40 cents and adult lunches are $2.50. Milk is .50 cents. If you think your child will qualify for Free or Reduced Meal Benefits, please complete the application and return to the school as soon as possible. For those students who qualified last year, benefits will be extended for the first two weeks of school to allow time for the application process to be completed. You can put more than one child on a single application. We also encourage you to come eat with your child. Please notify the school in the morning if you would like to join us for lunch.
Your child will bring home a copy of the handbook. Please read it carefully. This should clarify procedures and policies of our school. Please let me know if you have any questions or need further explanation.
Tusky Valley Primary’s day starts at 9:00. Doors open and students can go to their rooms at 8:30. If your child is purchasing lunch or milk tickets, they can go to the gym when they arrive to get their tickets. Those students who are eating breakfast can come in at 8:30 and go to the gym where our cafeteria is located. We stop serving breakfast at 8:50. Children are counted tardy after 9:00. The school day ends at 3:20. Students who ride busses will be dismissed starting at 3:25. Please do not ask to pick-up your child early unless it is for emergency reasons. This disrupts the classes, as the teachers are still working with the children until dismissal time.
It is very important that we have current contact phone numbers on our emergency medical form. Please make sure that the school always has updated numbers if anything changes during the school year. Please try to list two to three people that we can get in touch with if an emergency occurs and you are not available.
Child Drop-Off and Pickup Points
Busses will use the street in front of the school (First Street) for drop off and pick up. We are asking that parents that drive their child to and from school to pick up and drop off their students in the parking lot at the end of the playground. We would appreciate it if parents would not use First Street to get to the parking lot. This road is now a one-way street and it becomes a safety issue with cars trying to get past the busses when they are parked and unloading. Please come up Route 800 to the second stoplight. Turn right and go straight up to the parking lot. You can park and walk your child in if you want. At the end of the day, students who are being picked up are dismissed to the gym at 3:20. Parents will be asked to sign out their child at the stage end of the gym. If you arrive before 3:20, please do not enter the gym if there is a class using it for physical education class. If someone other than a parent is picking up a child, they need to sign the child out at the office with a note from the parent.
For the safety of all students and staff, we are requiring that all visitors to the school, including parents, report to the office to be issued a visitor’s pass before going anywhere in the building. If you are seen in the hallways without a pass, you will be asked to report to the office. If you would like to talk to your child’s teacher, please stop at the office and set up a conference time. Please keep in mind that student arrival is a very busy time for teachers, and stopping by to ask a question takes the teacher’s attention away from his/her students. All doors except for the main doors by the office will be locked at 9:05AM. We regret the inconvenience that some of these rules impose, but we want your children to be as safe as they can be at school.
Please refer to your copy of the Parent Student Handbook for the district bussing policy. If you have any questions regarding bussing, please contact Jim Downing at the district bus garage. The phone number is 859-2556.
The staff at Tuscarawas Valley Primary School is looking forward to a great year. We welcome your suggestions and comments to improve our school.
