TVLS vs. Local Districts: How Does TVLS Compare?

The Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools has a strong history of academic success while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Over the past 9 years, TVLS has seen an improvement in our performance index score each year while being responsible stewards of taxpayers’ dollars. In fact, TVLS has reduced spending by $2.6 million over the last six years in an attempt to delay a request for additional operating funds. The district's conservative approach to spending has made TVLS one of the most cost-efficient districts in the state of Ohio. According to data from the Ohio Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year, the per pupil expenditures ($7,949) of the TVLS ranked 18th lowest (out of 609 districts) in Ohio. This is $2,012 below the state average of $9,961.

The reduced spending has not hampered our ability to provide an excellent eduation to our students. The district achieved the ranking of "excellent with distinction " by the Ohio Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year. This is the highest ranking awarded by the Ohio Department of Education and TVLS was one of only 86 districts (out of 609) in the state of Ohio to earn this ranking.

The charts below compare our district to other districts in Tuscarawas County and the surrounding area. As you can see, TVLS currently enjoys the 3rd highest performance index score in the area trailing only Garaway Local and Dover City Schools. At the same time, TVLS leads the area in lowest per pupil spending for traditional districts and ranks only behind the Quaker Digital Academy in lowest per pupil spending overall.
