| Williamson Crowned 2012 Homecoming Queen! |

Congratulations to TVHS senior Raya Williamson as she was crowned the 2012 Homecoming Queen Friday night. Raya, the daughter of John & Ronda Williamson, is Vice-President of the Interact Club, a Crunch Squad Leader, a majorette, and secretary for the Student Council. Tusky Valley High School will be celebrating homecoming week this week in anticipation of Friday night's homecoming game vs. the Fairless Falcons. The 2012 Homecoming Queen will be announced at a ceremony before the game and the 2012 Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, September 22nd from 7:00 - 11:00 PM in the TVMS cafeteria. This year's homecoming attendants are seniors Holley Giblin, Lauren Weisgarber & Raya Williamson, junior Abby Allen, sophomore Erin Weisgarber, and freshman Riley Jarvis. |
| TVMS 8th Graders Celebrate Colonial Day |

Colonial Day is a hands on culminating activity for the first unit in American History class. The day is dedicated to colonial life and times. Students saw presentations from guest speakers and TVMS teachers. Mr. Rich Featherstun dressed the students in time period clothes and soldier uniforms while his wife, Pat, explained the female role during colonial times. Members of the Algonquin Spinning Guild, Mr. Dave Lewis, Mrs. Diane Schrader, Mrs. Brenda Harding, and Mrs. Ann Myers taught the students about the process of spinning and allowed the students to try their hand at turning wool into finished products. The students were able to make candles, butter, bread and write with quills during the day. They also played games children would have played in colonial times, and learned what life was like as a student during colonial times. The 8th staff of, Mrs. Jenna D’Ettore, Mr. Jake Gamber, Mrs. Jen Gardner, Mrs. Jess Goehring, Mrs. Sue Sciury, and Mrs. Kelly Stutzman hosted those activities throughout the school. | Bolivar Softball Team Wins League Title |

Congratulations to the 8-year old Bolivar youth softball team as they captured their league championship this weekend. The league included teams from New Philadelphia, Tuslaw, Strasburg, and Dover. |
| Boys' Golf Advances to District Tournament |
 |
Congratulations to the boys' golf team as they have advanced to the district tournament. The Trojans shot 326 as team to place 3rd out of 23 teams in Monday's sectional tournament. The top six teams advanced to district play. Seniors Cam Barr (77) and Garrett Thomspon (82) paced the Trojans. Sophomores Evan Walsh (84) & Tanner Johnson (83) and junior Payton Ziegler (88) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans. The district tournament will be held Wednesday, October 3rd at Granville Golf Club. |
| Scotts Have Grand Time at County Fair |

Congratulations to TVMS 8th grader Clay Scott as his hog Thor (271 pounds) took Grand Champion Market Hog at the 2012 Tuscarawas County Fair. Meanwhile, TVMS 5th grader Kayla Scott captured Reserve Grand Champion with her 255 pound hog Twig. Congratulations and great job! |
| Justin Mahoney Repeats as TV Chili Champion |

Congratulations to TVHS sophomore Justin Mahoney as he took top honors in the 2012 Trojan Chili Challenge. This is the 2nd consecutive year that Mahoney has won the title. Hennis Care Center came in second place. Darla Allen was the winner of the big basket raffle and Ronnie Jones captured medium basket raffle. The small basket winning ticket is 222315 so if you have the winning ticket stop by the TVHS office and claim your basket! |
| Golf Team Captures PAC Title! |

Congratulations to the TVHS golf team as they captured the PAC championship yesterday at the Legends. The golf title is determined by the cumulative score of the PAC preseason, midseason, and postseason tournaments. The Trojans placed 1st, 1st, and 3rd in the 3 events and captured the overall league title. |

Congratulations to TVHS seniors Codie McCain and Michala Metzcar as they have been named the 2012 Tuscarawas County Fair Homecoming King and Queen. McCain is a member of the Country Wild Childs 4-H Club and the Junior Fair Board. McCain currently attends Buckeye Career Center. Metzcar is a member of the Atwood Lakers 4-H Club and the Junior Fair Board. At TVHS, Metzcar is a member of the volleyball team. Congratulations Michala and Codie! Volleyball Team Holds Spaghetti Dinner

The TVHS volleyball team held an all you can eat spaghetti dinner in the TVHS cafeteria on Friday, September 14th before the home football game vs. Manchester. The dinner included spaghetti (meat sauce), salad, roll, and dessert. The dinner was part of the volleyball team's efforts to raise money as a part of the Volley for the Cure program. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the volleyball team. The volleyball team will hold their "Volley for the Cure" match on October 2nd vs. the Triway Titans. |
| TVLS Presents Honorary Diploma to Verna Maurer |

Our Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools Board of Education presented an honorary high school diploma to Mrs. Verna (Zimmerman) Maurer at its regular meeting on Monday, September 10, 2012. Mrs. Maurer, now 101 years young and a resident of Bolivar, would have graduated from Bolivar High School in 1929. Instead, she went to work for the Ohio Telephone Company in 1928 as a telephone operator. “We had about 90 telephones on party lines 5 or 6,” Verna shared in a letter to superintendent Mark Murphy. “Three years later (in 1943), the dial system came.” We are proud to recognize and celebrate the legacy of such a wonderful person as Mrs. Verna Maurer! |
| Soccer Team Enjoying Record Start |

Congratulations to the TVHS soccer team as they defeated the Timken Trojans by a score of 6-0 on September 10th.. With the victory the Trojans improved to 5-0 (5-0 in PAC), the best start in school history. Included in the victories was a 2-1 victory at traditional powerhouse CVCA. ! |
| TVMS Hosts Rachel's Challenge! |
Tusky Valley Middle School hosted Rachel's Challenge, one of the most life-changing school programs in America, on Monday, September 10th. Rachel Scott was the first person killed during the tragedy at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Rachel's Challenge provided a captivating hour long look at Rachel's life and the Columbine tragedy. The audio/video presentation was be followed by a 45 minute interactive training session involving adult and student leaders. Click here to see pictures from the event. |

Congratulations to TVHS teachers Cindy Martin, Kelly Gulling, Robin Bridinger, Dave Kennat, Susan Troyer, Ron Gauding and Mike Horger and TVMS teachers Sue Sciury, Cathy Whitehair, and Janet Cornell as they have received the 2012 Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities. TVLS was one of only 62 districts (out of 612) in the state of Ohio to receive the award. TVLS had 10 of the 356 teachers in Ohio that were recognized. Congratulations and great job! |
| Break the Grey Comes to TVLS |

Bill Ballenger, co-founder of Break the Grey, presented a series of assemblies to all Tuscarawas County middle and high school students during the week of September 10th. The Tusky Valley Break the Grey Assembly for students in grades 5-12 was held on Tuesday, September 11th at 1:30 PM in the high school gymnasium. Ballenger spoke about tough issues facing our young people today, as well as the importance of character development and making good decisions. Ballenger addressed topics such as suicide, eating disorders, rejections, addictions, and family brokeness. For more information visit www.breakthegrey.com. |
| TVLS Launches Smartphone App |

The Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools has launched a TVLS app for smartphones. The app, which is sponsored by Harris Battery, will give parents and students important district information via your smartphone. At the time of its release the app includes school calendars, lunch menus, staff e-mail directory, athletic schedules, photo galleries, and much more. One of the most important features of the app is the S.A.F.E Report. This allows students or parents to directly contact school officials about safety concerns they have within the district directly from their smartphone. Reports can be made anonymously. Users can sign up to receive text notifications which will allow them to receive important messages pertaining to district news, events, and activities. |

| Boys' Golf Team Off to Red Hot Start |

Congratulations to the Tusky Valley boys' golf team as they continued their red hot start to the 2012 golf season by winning the PAC mid-season tournament on Saturday at the Legends. The Trojans were led by seniors Cam Barr with an 80 and Garrett Thompson with an 81. Sophomore Tanner Johnson and freshman Sam Higl each shot an 88 to round out the scoring for the Trojans. The victory was the latest strong performance by the team as they also won the PAC preseason tournament, finished 2nd at the Indian Valley Invitational, and are a perfect 5-0 in dual matches. |
| Brinkman, Koch Shine Down Under |

TVHS seniors Jordyn Koch and Zach Brinkman participated in the Down Under Track & Field Competition held in Australia earlier this summer. Both Koch and Brinkman did a great job representing TVHS as Koch earned a gold medal in the steeplechase, a silver medal in the 3000M, and a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay. Brinkman won the gold medal in high jump and a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay. This fall Koch will attempt to qualify for her 3rd consecutive state meet as she is a member of the girls' cross country team. Meanwhile, Brinkman will take his athletic exploits to the gridiron as he is a running back and defensive back for the Trojan football team. |

The Tuscarawas Valley Local School District wishes to thank all the volunteers who served for Community Impact Day on Sunday, August 12! Volunteers from NewPointe Community Church canvassed all 4 school buildings and performed a number of service projects including weeding, mulching, trimming, and painting.
