TVLS Holds Annual Science Fair
The Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools held the annual science fair on Saturday, February 26th. Below are the top projects of the 2011 TVLS Science Fair.

Girls' Basketball Captures Sectional Title

Congratulations to the Tusky Valley girls' basketball team as they captured the sectional championship by defeating Ridgewood 72-35 on Wednesday night. Paige Ricketts led the way with 19 points while Natasha Tucke (12 points), Shannon Watson (11 points), Katlynn Dunlap (11 points), and Jamie Cochran (10 points) all chipped in as the Trojans improved to 17-5 on the season. The Trojans advance to the district tournament where they fill face Fort Frye on Wednesday, March 2nd at Steubenville High School. The game will tip at 7:00 PM.


Kirtley Captures TVMS Spelling Bee
Congratulations to TVMS eighth-grader Dakota Kirtley as he recently captured the annual TVMS spelling bee. Kirtley defeated seventh-grader Arizona Stewart in the finals. Kirtley now advances to The Canton Repository Bee on March 5th at Glenoak High School. The event will begin at 1:30 PM.

Trojan Wrestlers Advance to Districts
Congratulations to TVHS wrestlers Josh Wallace (130), Zach McCall (135), Cody Hodge (145), Chase Steffl (152), Codie Millhone (160), Tre Martin (171), and James Neff (heavyweight) as they have advanced to the district wrestling tournament. The Trojan team finished in 2nd place in the sectional tournament. The district tournament will begin on Friday at Coshocton High School.

TVLS Announces 2011-2012 Academic Calendar
At its regular meeting on February 7, 2011, the TVLS Board of Education approved the District Calendar for 2011-2012.  Next year’s calendar is very similar to those in the past.  It does feature, however, some new and creative elements to offer greater continuity instructionally for students:
  1. Builds in 5 calamity make-up days within the school year, rather than adding days at the end of the year
  2. Seeks ODE’s approval for 2 full “waiver days” for teacher professional development
  3. Eliminates the use of scheduled 2-hour delay days for professional development

Kent-Tusc Sponsoring "Engineer for a Day" Program
Kent State - Tuscarawas will be sponsoring "The Engineer/Technologist for a Day" program on Thursday, February 22nd. The program allows high school juniors and seniors to spend half a day with local engineers and technologist to get a first hand exposure to the field. Students can click here to get more information on the program. The deadline for registration is Friday, February 11, 2011.
