TVHS Names January Students of the Month!

TVLSD to Implement Notification System
The Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools will be implementing a PreK-12 notification program that will allow the district to quickly and effectively communicate important school and district news to parents and staff members through telephone messages. This system will provide the district with the capability of sharing urgent information with parents all at one time. The system was paid for in part by using money from the Drug Free Grant. Apples for the Students Program Underway!

Giant Eagle is once again offering support to area classrooms. Our schools can receive free items for classroom and playground use. In past years, we have received Scholastic dictionaries, Scholastic book sets, a science weather station, a digital camera, a mini DVD camcorder and gym equipment. Each time you use your Giant Eagle card between now and March 17, 2010, you can help us earn points toward free items! Once registered you simply shop at Giant Eagle and each purchase earns points for our school. The program does not affect your GetGo fuelperks in any way. Hiltner Participates in All-State Band!

Congratulations to TVHS senior Emily Hiltner as she participated in the All-State Band in late January at the Ohio Music Education Association conference in Cincinnati. The OMEA All-State Band is the top band ensemble in the state of Ohio. There were over 1000 applicants for the All-State Band and Hiltner is the first TVHS student to ever be accepted into the OMEA All-State Band!

Stoneking, Haney Take Top Honors in Essay Contest!
Congratulations to TVHS senior Ashley Stoneking and sophomore Danelle Haney as they have been selected as the winners of the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Joint Solid Waste Management District Essay Contest. Students were asked to choose one of two possible essay topics: "If I were president, how would I get more Americans to recycle?" or "Should recycling be mandatory?" Stoneking and Haney will be awarded a prize of recycled materials, have their winning essays posted on the Waste Management District's website and published in the 2010 calendar.

Knecht Signs with Malone University!

Congratulations to TVHS senior Kori Knecht as she has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Malone University. Knecht has played second base and shortstop during her career for the Trojans. She also has played for the Ohio Thunder 18-and-under travel team. Knecht plans on majoring in nursing at Malone.

TVHS Students Eligible to Attend Cavs Game!
The 3.0 Club program offers students who earn above average grades an opportunity to attend a Cavaliers game and a Monsters game at Quicken Loans Arena during the 2009-2010 season. Students that had a 3.0 GPA or above during the second nine weeks will earn one complimentary ticket with the purchase of one discounted ticket for a designated Cavaliers game and Monsters game. In addition, College Advantage, Ohio's 529 College Saving Plan, will offer students at participating schools a chance at a $1000 scholarship. Eligible students can get more information in the guidance office.

Martin Named T-R Athlete of the Week!

Congratulations to TVHS junior wrestler Tre Martin as he was named the Times Reporter Athlete of the Week. Martin was dominating last week as he went 6-0 with all 6 victories coming on pins. Martin went 5-0 at the Beallsville Invitiational to capture the championship in the 171-pound division. Martin stands 17-6 on the year.

Girls' Basketball Ranked 6th in Initial AP Poll!

Congratulations to the TVHS girls' basketball team as they are ranked 6th in Division III in the initial Associated Press girls' state basketball poll. The Lady Trojans were 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the PAC at the time of the inital poll/

TVHS Students Build Tables for Bolivar Commons!
Students in Mr. Gauding's Construction class have spent the last 11 weeks building picnic tables for the Bolivar Commons Park and Pool. A total of 25 tables have been built and delivered to the Commons. The students in the class are Christian Teague, Zach Cush, Randy Harsha, Ryan Shreffler, and Josiah Gray.

Wojcicki Captures 100th!
Congratulations to TVHS senior Luke Wojcicki as he captured his 100th career victory on Saturday, January 9th at the StitchCo Classic. Wojcicki pinned Timken's Kyle Seese at the 1:17 mark to record his 100th career victory. Wojcicki improved to 16-3 this season and 101-46 in his career as he took 3rd place at the StitchCo Classic. He joins Eric Lee (class of 2003) and Justin Conklin (Class of 2004) as Trojan wrestlers who have reached 100 career victories. Congratulations Luke!

Tucke Named T-R Athlete of the Week!

Congratulations to senior basketball player Sara Tucke as she has been named the Times Reporter's Female Athlete of the Week. Tucke scored 50 points last week as the Trojans defeated TCC, CVCA, and Strasburg to improve to 10-0! For the season Tucke is averaging 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1 steal per game to help lead the Trojans to their best start since the 1989-90 season.
