Students in Mrs. Martin's Anatomy and AP Biology classes recently viewed a knee replacement surgery through the district's distance learning equipment. The program was sponsored by
COSI. The students completed pre-visit activities including the virtual knee surgery web site, building a knee out of common materials to demonstrate the importance of alignment and to highlight anatomy, and examining x-rays to identify common knee problems and solutions. After viewing the surgery students completed several post-visit activities including suturing using hemostats, completing an activity that demonstrated the importance of measuring and alignment for the replacement knee, and an activity that demonstrated the importance of washing hands and maintaining the sterile field.
