Kindergarten Students Learn About Thanksgiving!
Students in Mrs. Mitchell's and Mrs. Thomas' kindergarten classes been working on Thanksgiving activities. The classes started with a study of pumpkins and turkeys by reading poetry and learning songs. The classes also compared the growth cycle of a pumpkin and a turkey. The classes then studied Pilgrims and Indians. Writing activities were included every week. Today's activity was the culmination of the Social Studies unit. The students were assigned to be either an Indian boy/girl or a Pilgrim boy/girl. There was also a Pilgrim minister from each group. Each group had their own lines and when the narrator (Mrs. Thomas) said their name, the students would say their lines. The students were also taught the Pow Wow Song and the song We Give Thanks. Each of these songs used sign language... the way that the Pilgrims communicated with Squanto. Click here to watch the play!

TVHS Students Urged to Think First!

THINK FIRST is a national program developed by America’s Neurosurgeons and presented at no charge to schools.  This program is available to our community through the sponsorship of Aultman Hospital. Each year an estimated 500,000 Americans sustain permanent brain and spinal cord injuries.  Teens and young adults are at highest risk for these injuries, many of which are preventable.  The most frequent of these injuries are motor vehicle accidents, falls, sport and recreation and violence.  The message of THINK FIRST is that you can have a fun and exciting life and you can do it without hurting yourself if you “think first and use your mind to protect your body.”

The program consists of a video which features direct and honest testimony from teens with head and spinal injuries and a brief overview of the anatomy of the brain and spinal cord. The class also gets to meet a young lady who has sustained a spinal cord injury and she describes how her life has changed since the injury
